The Toronto Blue Jays have signed first baseman Justin Smoak to a two-year extension. He will earn $4.125 million each of the next two season, according to MLB.com. He was set to be a free agent after the season.

There is also a club option for $6 million in 2019. With the deal, fans were wondering if that meant the Blue Jays were going to get rid of Edwin Encarnacion. General manager Ross Atkins said that is not the case.

Smoak has recorded a .234 BA. He also has hit nine home runs and has recorded 23 RBIs.
