Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer is heading to the All-Star Game, as he will replace teammate and fellow pitcher Stephen Strasburg on the NL All-Star roster. Strasburg was originally selected to the NL roster, and he was a viable candidate to start the game, but he was pulled out of the game as a precaution. Strasburg pitched 6 2/3 innings against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, as he had a no hitter going before being taken out.

That was his first start since being activated from the DL because of an upper-back strain. The All-Star Game will be held at Petco Park in San Diego on July 12. Strasburg, who is a San Diego native, is expected to attend the game. Strasburg is 11-0 this season with a 2.71 ERA. Scherzer is 9-6 with a 3.21 ERA. Scherzer is now a four time All-Star, making it twice with the Nationals, and twice with the Detroit Tigers. Major League Baseball also announced the winners of the Final Vote for both leagues today.

Michael Saunders, an outfielder for the Toronto Blue Jays, and San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt, are both heading to the All-Star Game thanks to a fan vote. Saunders is batting .302 this season, with 16 homers and 41 RBI’s. Saunders will be making his first All-Star Game appearance, and he’ll be on the AL roster. Belt is batting .300 this season, with 10 home runs and 46 RBI’s. Belt will also be making the first All-Star Game of his career, as he’ll be playing on the NL squad.
