The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded closer Mark Melancon to the Washington Nationals. Melancon has 30 saves this season with a 1.51 ERA.
He has recorded 151 saves over his eight seasons with the Pirates, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros.
He set a career high last season with 51 saves. That would be the lead league for the season. The Nationals sent reliever Felipe Rivero and prospect Taylor Hearn.
