Chris Sale will be the starting pitcher for the American League in the 87th All-Star Game Tuesday night in San Diego.
Sale, a left-handed pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, makes
his fifth straight All-Star game appearance. Sale is 14-3 with a 3.38 ERA and
123 strikeouts in 2016. His 14 wins leads the major leagues and his strikeout
total is third in the American League.
Sale becomes just the third White Sox pitcher to start in an
All-Star game since 1960, following Esteban Loaiza in 2003 and Mark Buehrle in
2005. Johnny Cueto of the San Francisco Giants will be the starter for the
National League.
