The New Chicago Cubs

4 years ago today, The Chicago Cubs were on pace to lose 108 games. That team was led by Darwin Barney, Tony Campana, David DeJesus, Marlon Byrd, Brett Jackson, and Matt Garza. Some not so fond memories can be dug out by those names. Fast forward to right now & this 2016 Chicago Cubs team led by Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Addison Russell, Ben Zobrist, and Jake Arrieta is on pace to win 112 games. Trust me, They're not stopping anytime soon.

But how good can they be? Let me just throw out some stats for you guys. Their 31-14 start is their best start since 1914 when they started off 31-13. The only other times they came close to this was in 1903 & 1907. The Cubs have a team ERA of 2.70 and their opponents BA is a solid .200. Talking about pitching, we are watching HISTORY right now every time Jake Arrieta steps on the mound. He tied a major league record yesterday by winning his 20th straight decision. Just when you thought the 2003/2007/2008 team couldn't get better, it has and it is built up for a dynasty.

Fans on the North Side tend to forget too that with all this success happening right now, one major piece is missing; Kyle Schwarber. The power smashing "Babe Ruth". In 69 games of his rookie season last year, he belted 16 HR and plated 43 runs across the board. He was a key success for the Cubs post ASG & in the post season where he batted a .333 & hit 5 home runs tying a Cubs post season record. Could you imagine if he was playing everyday how much more that lineup would be structured? Oh lord. But we wish Kyle the best recovery this season to come back stronger next year.

30 years down the road we are going to look back on this 2016 team (the 2015 team as well) and really think how special it was. It's only 2 months in and we have a lot of memories already. The Javy Baez walk off on Mothers Day, The Addison Russell home run on the Home Opener, or how about Arrieta's second no hitter?

It's a great year to be a fan of the "Love-able Losers" & we haven't even seen the best of this team yet. When its 80 degrees, clear skies, and the wind blowing out at Wrigley; Ball hawks be ready because with Bryzzo hitting back to back, we all know some balls will be flying onto Waveland. It's going to be a great summer for this New Chicago Cubs team & every fan certainly deserves it.
