Royals Begin Spring Strong

The Kansas City Royals have started the spring out right as they have a record of 5-2 through the first 7 games. The wins were against the Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners, Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies and the Los Angels Dodgers. The only 2 losses the Royals have suffered were against the Texas Rangers and the defending World Series champions Chicago Cubs. Obviously there is no correlation between Spring Training success and success in the regular season, but the future looks bright as things currently stand for the Royals.

Royals acquire Brandon Moss to a 2 year $12 million contract.

This Sunday the Kansas City Royals acquired free agent Brandon Moss to a 2 year $12 million contract. Brandon Moss played for the St. Louis Cardinals last season, his contract then ran out and was not renewed by the Cardinals. Brandon Moss plays 1st base or the outfield, but the Royals will probably put him in the DH roll vs RHP to fill the void for them losing Kendrys Morales. He will also be a good backup for days off for Eric Hosmer.

Colorado Rockies Sign Free Agent Greg Holland to a 1 year $7 million contract

This Wednesday the Colorado Rockies signed former free agent and former closer for the Kansas City Royals Greg Holland to a 1 year $7 million contract. Greg Holland missed all of the 2016  season after having Tommy John surgery. The Kansas City Royals then released him. A big question is how strongly Greg Holland will bounce back from Tommy John. But Spring Training will be a big part of the factor. If he doesn't perform well in Spring Training considering he missed all of the 2016 season, I think they will be quick to jump him down to the Minor Leagues.
