Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is out for the season with a serious groin injury. This is the third straight season in which Stanton did not play through the end of September.

The injury was sustained on Saturday when he tried going for a double in the bottom of the ninth in their 8-7 loss against the Chicago White Sox. He also hit his 25th home run of the season last night. When he was out for the season in 2015, he had hit 27 home runs.

The Marlins are currently tied with the St. Louis Cardinals with the second wild card spot. The team has said they will discuss acquiring Alex Rodriguez, who was recently released by the New York Yankees.
