The Washington Nationals have placed pitcher Stephen Stratsburg on the 15-day DL with an upper back strain. He has not started since June 15 and was scratched from his start Saturday against the Detroit Tigers. He will also miss his scheduled start today against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Washington Post reported that Stratsburg had dislocated two ribs while lifting weights last week, but the ribs were put back into place. Stratsburg has a 2.90 ERA this season.

The DL move is retroactive June 16. He threw a bullpen session on Friday, but was still feeling discomfort in his lower back. The Nationals will make a roster move on Monday.
