Curtis Granderson: What to expect in 2016?

There were times at which the 2015 New York Mets season could have downward spiralled and turned into yet another lost season; however, that was not the case.  A significant reason as to why the Mets were able to overcome key injuries and sub-par play on the offensive side of the ball was largely due to the performance of outfielder Curtis Granderson.

Granderson appeared in 157 games for the Mets in 2015, and was very effective on both sides of the ball.  The veteran outfielder showed off his great range and reliable glove throughout the duration of the season, and when the Mets were in need of a clutch hit, he was always there to deliver.

Despite an average first season with the Mets, Granderson had himself a fine year in 2015.  He accumulated an average of .259 while hitting 26 homeruns and 70 RBIs.  He also stole 11 bases, and recorded a career high in walks with 91.

Granderson was an ideal leadoff batter for the Mets as he was often on base, and has solid speed when on the bases.  He also set a Mets franchise record hitting the most leadoff homeruns with seven, surpassing former Met Jose Reyes.

The Mets outfield will be stacked come Opening Day, as Granderson will man the right side, while the power hitting Yoenis Cespedes will cover centre and young star Michael Conforto will be in left field.

Throughout the past couple of seasons, Granderson has shown absolutely no signs of slowing down from a production standpoint, despite the fact that he will be turning 35years old before the start of the season.  If he can continue to remain healthy, there is no doubt that he can have yet another impressive season.  Look for Granderson to hit 24 homeruns while batting .260 this coming year.

The New York Mets will be a powerhouse in the National League.  Their leadoff hitter Curtis Granderson will play a significant role in the team’s success this coming year.  If he can have, as much success as he did in 2015 batting leadoff, there is no reason as to why the Mets can’t repeat as NL East Champions.
