Marlins Changing Voices

The Miami Marlins have a reputation for doing some crazy things, sometimes things that cause the rest of the sport to shake their heads. This winter has been no different. They've signed some quality ballplayers, but made a few questionable signings (as well as some questionable non-signings). Those questionable changes weren't only made on the field/in the dugout.......they were also made in their sound booth.

After 19 dedicated seasons with the Marlins, Tommy Hutton's contract was NOT renewed over the winter. The Marlins simply told him that they have "decided to go in a different direction". No real explanation, no elaborate reason, just "Thank you for your service, but it's over".

Tommy has been a dedicated fan, as well as the color announcer in Miami. He was cited for a few negative comments over the years, but all of them were apparently very similar to what you and I might say, as we watch the game at home.......enthusiastic that our team will win, and something "doesn't go right". In other words.....He may have let his "love for the team" affect his comments in the booth. Others who were asked about his enthusiasm, commented that "it was often obvious which team he was rooting for....and there's nothing wrong with that!"

So as we head into the 2016 Season, we'll still find Rich Waltz calling the plays, and Preston Wilson still doing some of the color commentary, but this season he'll be joined by a couple other former Marlins.....Al Leiter and Eduardo Perez.

We appreciate everything that Tommy Hutton brought to the game over his 19 years with the Marlins. I wish him well as he transitions into his next adventure, whatever that may be, and recognize him for his dedication and loyalty to the Marlins organization.
