The Cardinals announced Friday that they have signed OF Carlos Peguero to a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league Spring Training. Peguero, 28, split time last year in the Rangers and Red Sox organizations and got into 34 games at the major-league level. In those 34 games, Carlos slashed .187/.311./.400 with 4 HR and 9 RBI. While the average may not be impressive, the OBP and SLG show promise.
Peguero's breakout season came in 2014 when he belted 30 HR in Omaha, the AAA affiliate of Kansas City. Carlos owns a career batting line of .276/.345/.528 at the AAA level and combined to hit 25 HR between AAA and the majors last season. Peguero's biggest issue is strikeouts, as he has struck out in nearly 40% of his major-league at-bats and just over 30% in five AAA seasons.
