Marlins Closer

As we get closer to the actual day that Pitchers and Catchers report to Jupiter (Feb 18th this year), we'll be watching closely to the bullpen of the Marlins. They have announced that they've been looking at other closers (to no avail), and that they are now going to decide between the incumbent, A.J. Ramos, and 'the youngster' Carter Capps as their closer, sometime before the start the season. It looks like there will be some sort of competition during Spring Training for those honors.

Ramos had a pretty good season in 2015, acquiring 32 saves along the way, albeit vs 6 Blown Saves. That's not a great number to sport, hence the decision to try out Capps this Spring. Ramos did have a 1.01 WHIP and a 2.30 ERA (which are both respectable numbers), so there's a good chance that he remains in the closer seat, and Capps stays in the 8th (at least for now). Capps is a "fireballer".....and has an incredible 1.87/IP K rate, whereas Ramos has a respectable 1.24/IP rate.

As it stands right now........Caps has the "Better Stuff"......but Ramos has the experience.

It will be interesting to see which way they go.....but either way they end up, the Marlins have a very nice tandem at the back of the bullpen. If Mike Dunn can lock down the 7th (he's been pretty solid), they'll be in good shape.

As Always......Your Comments and Feedback are requested below.
