The St. Louis Cardinals held a press conference Monday afternoon to announce the signing of 33-year old Seung-hwan Oh, closer from the Hanshin Tigers in Korea. The deal is worth $11 million for one year, with $5 million guaranteed. This was a rather surprising pick-up for the Cardinals, as the main focus seemed to be on offense; however, with the acquisition of Oh, the St. Louis bullpen will definitely be stronger. Nicknamed "The Final Boss" and "Stone Buddha," Oh has a career 1.81 ERA, over 646 1/3 innings pitched. Although Oh was a closer in Korea, he will likely serve as the St. Louis setup man, as the Cards already have All Star closer Trevor Rosenthal. In my opinion, the Cardinals bullpen ranks right up there with the Yankees' bullpen, with Siegrist, Maness, Rosenthal, and now Oh. Seung-hwan Oh will wear number 26, as it looks like Mike Matheny will go back to number 22.
