New York Mets Sign Antonio Bastardo

It has been reported that the New York Mets have reached an agreement with lefty Antonio Bastardo on a two-year deal worth 12 million dollars, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.  The deal has yet to be confirmed by the team.

In 66 appearances last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Bastardo compiled a 4-1 record, while throwing 57.1 innings, and an ERA of 2.98.  What was most impressive about Bastardo in 2015 was his ability to strike out batters, as he posted 64 strikeouts, compared to just 26 walks.

The signing of Bastardo significantly improves and helps bolster a Mets bullpen, which often struggled at times last season.  At first glance, look for Bastardo to be the set-up man for closer Jeurys Familia who had a breakout year this past season.  The Mets bullpen looks much more stable heading into 2016.
