The exact terms of Dee Gordon's extension have been released. Here are the details of that agreement, per Jon Heyman and reported by mlbtraderumors.com.......
JAN. 15: Heyman now reports the full breakdown of Gordon’s extension (Twitter link).
Gordon will receive a $1.5MM signing bonus and yearly salaries of $3MM
(2016), $7.5MM (2017), $10.5MM (2018), $13MM (2019) and $13.5MM (2020).
All of this confirms the fact that "The Marlins struck a great deal" when they signed Gordon. These numbers probably exceed what he would have gotten in arbitration (except for 2016), but are a little less than he would have probably gotten if he had tested FA in 2019 & 2020.
The result of all of this is......This is probably a good deal for both sides. If Gordon excels for the next 5 years, it's a bargain for Miami. If he becomes an average player for his skill set (meaning his BABIP returns to earth, and his speed diminishes), it's a secure deal for Gordon.
Of course, most of us see him playing out his final 3 years with another team, because that's what Loria likes to do (altogether too often).
From the Dugout.......
