With that being said, let's take a look at the Rockies moves so far this offseason:
- October 6: Rockies announce manager Walt Weiss will return for the 2016 season. Colorado had a disappointing 2015 season and many questioned Weiss' job security. However, owner Dick Monfort and GM Jeff Bridich assured that Weiss would be managing the club in 2016.
- October 29: Rockies decline mutual option on 1B Justin Morneau. The 2006 AL MVP had an injury-plagued 2015 campaign, highlighted by a neck injury that caused him to miss 113 games.
- November 9: SS Jose Reyes, who the team acquired in July in the blockbuster trade that sent Troy Tulowitzki to Toronto, was arrested for alleged domestic violence in Hawaii. MLB has not announced any discipline for Reyes, but this definitely puts a question mark on his availability in 2016.
- November 20: Rockies designate John Axford, Wilin Rosario, Rex Brothers, and Tommy Kahnle for assignment.
- Axford elected free agency signed with Oakland on December 9th.
- Rosario too elected free agency and remains a free agent.
- Brothers was acquired by the Cubs on November 25 for a minor league lefty Wander Cabrera.
- Kahnle was acquired by the White Sox on November 24 for minor league pitcher Yency Almonte.
- December 8: Rockies sign righties Jason Motte and Chad Qualls to 2-year deals. Motte spent 2015 with the Cubs after spending his entire career in St. Louis, while Qualls spent 2015 in Houston.
- December 10: Rockies trade RHP Luis Perdomo to San Diego for cash considerations. Rockies sign 1B Mark Reynolds to a one-year deal. Reynolds spent 2015 in St. Louis and hit .230, 13 HR, and 48 RBI in 140 games.
- December 19: Rockies sign closer Adam Ottavino to a three-year, $10.4MM contract extension. Ottavino underwent Tommy John surgery in 2015 but hopes to be back to his usual, devastating slider-throwing self.
Rockies will never be a postseason team..........even though i like the Rockies
ReplyDeleteI agree. I like them too, but they've only made the postseason a handful of times. Pitching is and will continue to be their weakness
