Rockies, Nolan Arenado Avoid Arbitration

The Rockies and 3B Nolan Arenado have avoided arbitration, agreeing to a one-year, $5MM deal. Arenado, 24, was in his first year of arbitration eligibility. As I previously noted, MLBTR's Matt Swartz projected Colorado's franchise player to earn $6.6MM.

Colorado's All-Star 3B had a breakout year in 2015, slashing .287/.323./575 with 42 HR and 130 RBI, also winning a third consecutive Gold Glove award and finishing 8th in NL MVP voting. Many thought Arenado might sign a multi-year deal in order to buy out his arbitration years, but Nolan and the Rockies chose the one-year deal.

Colorado has yet to agree to terms with CF Charlie Blackmon and 2B DJ LeMaiheu, the club's remaining arbitration-eligible players.
