The Rockies have reached an agreement with outfielder Gerardo Parra on a 3-year, $27.5MM deal with an option for a 4th year at $12MM. Parra, 28, started the 2015 season as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers before being traded at the Trading Deadline to Baltimore. In all, Parra slashed .291/.328/.452 with 14 HR and 51 RBI in 2015. Parra is most notably known for his glove and the cannon of an arm he possesses. He has won two Gold Glove awards, in 2011 (LF) and 2013 (RF) as a member of the Diamondbacks where he began his career. He can also play center but his value is more as a corner outfielder, particularly RF.
His signing means that a trade of one of the Rockies outfielders is most likely imminent. As it stands, Colorado's outfield on opening day would be Corey Dickerson in left, Charlie Blackmon in center, and Carlos Gonzalez in right. The Rockies have previously stated that they are open to trading anyone of that trio, and Gonzalez has been heavily linked to trade talks. The Angels, Cardinals, and Orioles remain suitors for a Colorado outfielder.
