Will the Cubs Get Their Young Gun?

Hi everyone! New to Everything MLB Inc and this is my first article on the Cubs! Very excited to be apart of Everything MLB Inc and to be writing about my passion, the Cubs!! Let's get down to the stuff everyone wants to read about, trades!!!! It's been quite obvious the Cubs are looking to acquire a young cost controlled starting pitcher. I mean, what team wouldn't right? Rumor has it that the Cubs and Rays match up well and that a trade will eventually happen. There's no guarantee, but what I do know is that the Cubs are doing everything possible to find the right deal without hurting the MLB club. Ideally a trade for a starter would be to use prospects and to leave the MLB club intact. At the same time a team like the Rays might need their return to be a major league ready piece to trade a big gun out of their rotation so the two clubs could be at an impasse. As the days come and go and the offseason nears it's end one thing for sure it that this ball club is vastly improved with its additions. Everyone is very excited to see 2016 as the year we take it all the way and do the unthinkable, 2016 world series champions, the Chicago Cubs!

Let's look at a rumored deal,

Baez or Soler plus for Odorizzi/Mcgee

By plus I mean prospects also added to the trade. On the surface it seems like giving up on Baez and Soler would be a horrible thing to do this early. Soler has massive power potential and could be a 30/100 guy year in and year out. He showed what he could bring to the club in the post season and had everyone all giddy, myself included. What we can't deny though is he is non-existent when it is cold outside and his defense is nothing to be excited about. The front office knows this and makes them consider dealing him because of it. The front office has already said they want to improve on the outfield defense and they have by adding Heyward. Let's not fools ourselves though. Heyward is the leagues best right fielder and he belongs in right field even though he will be above average if not great in center. Baez is a little different from Soler. Above average defense, huge power, versatile but major contact issues. Joe Maddon is in love with Baez for his defense and base running. Baez is working out in center in the winter leagues and from all accounts he looks like a natural. What makes him so valuable to the big league club is that he can play short, second base, third base and probably the whole outfield. What the draw backs are of course is all the K's and contact issues. Everyone knows it, but can he improve on it? What you get in Baez is the potential to get a Manny ramirez or a Mark Reynolds. No one knows what he is going to turn out to be but one thing is that his defense and baserunning is very valuable to a club if he turns out to be a Reynolds instead of a Ramirez. After going back and forth on it I think I would prefer to trade Soler over Baez. People might think I'm insane but the better Defense and baserunning makes Baez more valuable to me and to the team. If Soler is traded it opens right up for Heyward and maybe a reunion with Dexter Fowler who I think is a great fit for this club. So what would I like to see going to the rays? All prospects first but if it has to include Soler or baez how about Soler,Vogelbach and Christian Villanueva for Odorizzi and Mcgee. Seems like a fair trade and the Cubs get their impact pieces in the rotation and the pen. Thoughts?
