Cubs pitchers and catchers first report to Arizona , on Feb.20, the Cubs will workout that next day. Full squad are to report Feb.24.
This will be the 3rd year at their new facility in Meza,Arizona. The first Cactus League game will be on March 3rd Cubs will travel to Maryvale,Arizona., to face the Brewers.
Big Week For Cubs
Jake Arrieta with arbitration salary figures due Friday. Jake could receive a raise from $3.63 million to around 11 million because of the Cy Young award winning season he had. Posted 0.41 ERA in final 12 starts with 11 wins. Arrieta can become a free agent after 2017 season , but that's not likely going to happen Cubs can give him a two-year deal to save up more for Bryant & Russell arbitration in 2018.
How much regression (if any) do you realistically expect from Arrieta? Did he perform "out of his socks" last year?....or is that really "who he is?" Also, any word from the Cubs whether Russell will move towards the top of the lineup, or stay down near the bottom in 2016?
ReplyDeleteI don't expect Arrieta to have 20 wins again but Arrieta did show some consistency last season while pitching. To me Arrieta have to learn how to pace himself so he want be tired during the postseason. Russell will most likely stay where he at in the lineup.
