Rockies Designate Christian Friedrich for Assignment

FEBRUARY 5: As our JC Carrillo writes, Friedrich has been claimed by the Angels.

JANUARY 28: In light of the trade that happened Thursday sending Rockies LF Corey Dickerson to Tampa Bay, Colorado announced that they have designated lefty reliever Christian Friedrich for assignment. As MLBTR notes, Colorado acquired two 40-man players and had to clear space for one of Jake McGee or German Marquez.

Friedrich, 28, was selected 25th overall in the 2008 draft by the Rockies but has struggled much of his pro career. In 68 games in 2015, Christian went 0-4 with a 5.25 ERA and 45 strikeouts out of Colorado's 'pen. In three seasons with the Rox, Friedrich has a 5-16 record with an ERA of 5.81 and 146 strikeouts in 100 games, including 19 starts. If this does indeed spell the end for Friedrich in Colorado, it sounds like a change of scenery would be good for the southpaw.
