The Houston Astros have signed Cuban free agent Yulieski Gourriel. The deal is for five years and is worth $47 million. Gourriel was declared a free agent by Major League Baseball back in June.

Gourriel was a big part of Cuban baseball. He played on the Cuban baseball team in three World Baseball Classic tournaments and was also part of the 2008 Olympics team.

He had also been shown interest by other teams such as the San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers. He is projected to play at either first base or second base.
