Justin Upton of the Detroit Tigers and Melvin Upton of the San Diego Padres were each placed on the bereavement list on Thursday and Friday, respectively, by their ball clubs.

According to MLB.com, "The bereavement list allows players to leave the team to attend to a death or serious illness in the family. By rule, a player placed on the bereavement list must stay there for at least three days but for no more than seven." Justin Upton is eligible to return Sunday, while Melvin Upton will be eligible on Monday.

Justin is hitting just .235 (his lowest batting average since his rookie year) with 9 home runs and 38 RBIs this season. Melvin is hitting .262 with 16 home runs and 44 RBIs.
