The Chicago White Sox have called up pitcher Carson Fulmer from the AA Birmingham Barons, the club announced on Friday.

Fulmer is the White Sox' top prospect, and #33 in the MLB. Drafted 8th overall out of Vanderbilt in the 2015 draft, he was expected to move quickly through the minor league system, and has done so. Despite his 4-9 record and 4.76 ERA this season with the Barons, he has pitched well over his last few starts, and made an appearance in the Futures game during All-Star weekend.

The 6-foot, 195-pound 22-year old from Lakeland, Florida is expected to be used in the bullpen for the White Sox in the same way current starting pitchers Chris Sale and Carlos Rodon did when they first appeared in the majors.

"You're trying to see if a kid can do it, and we did it with Carlso a little bit, and Chris has done it," White Sox manager Robin Venture told the Chicago Tribune. "You bring 'em up here and you bring 'em through out of the bullpen and see if you can lighten their load a little bit and then see how they handle it."
